Pore Minimizing Solutions

Pores! They’re just something you’d like to see a little less of, am I right? The worst is when you snap a super cute picture, and they suddenly appear ten times larger, making you want to immediately press delete.

Lucky for you, I’ve got a few helpful tips and products to help minimize your pore situation. You can try the at-home solutions first, then grab a product that helps to diminish pores even more. Here’s how to enjoy a porcelain-smooth complexion!

Why Do My Pores Look So Big?

Enlarged pores can occur due to problems underneath the surface of your skin. Stuff like acne or clogging (if you don’t wash off your makeup) can create tiny inflammations, stretching pores open wide as they try and get the gunk out.

Rule # 1 Wash Your Face!

Washing your face two times a day is important. A good cream that reduces pores won’t help if you are skipping the most important step!

Make sure you use a face wash that effectively removes dirt and makeup. Wash it twice, once to remove makeup and once to totally clean your skin.

My favorite is ZO Skin Health Gentle Cleanser. With this face wash, my makeup comes off after just one wash—which hasn’t been my experience with other cleansers. And I just discovered a new face wash that works great as well Neutrogena naturals purifying facial cleanser. I usually rinse with cold water at the end, because it helps to tighten pores down a bit as well.

Easy-Peasy Home Remedies To Help Minimize Pores

Baking Soda

This is a big one! Baking soda helps fight bacteria and is a great cleanser to boot. Make a baking soda paste (equal parts of baking soda and water), and then scrub gently in a circular motion once in a while.

After a while the baking soda has had a chance to oxygenate your pores, clearing out any built up gunk. Switch to just a couple times a month for maintenance so that you don’t excessively dry out your skin.

Baking soda is also great for fighting acne. However, if you know that your skin is sensitive, use this mix with caution. It’s best to do a tiny spot check on your neck the day before starting, just to be sure. Also, if you have severe acne problems, ask your doctor before applying any home remedies to your skin.

Lemon

This magical fruit has the ability to cleanse your skin and shrink the appearance of pores.

How to use? Take a lemon half and simply rub it across the areas of your face where you have blackheads or open pores. Let the juice sit for a couple minutes, then rinse your face with cool water.

If you have dry skin, go ahead and moisturize first. Lemon juice is drying, and your skin might overcompensate with extra oil, causing unneeded breakouts.

Face Scrubs

If you choose to use a face scrub, make sure it’s very fine. Course beads or apricot shells will scratch your skin and can result in micro scarring, which looks even worse as you age.

Also, if you use a scrub, you can skip on the face wash. After all, you don’t want to over wash your skin and cause redness or irritation.

My favorite gentile face scrub is Zo Skin Health Offects Exfoliating Polish, it makes your face feel like silk!

Remember to SPF

Homemade beauty solutions such as lemon and baking soda can cause your skin to be extra sensitive to the sun, so remember to wear SPF for protection from UV rays. And don’t forget, light reaches indoors as well. SPF is a year round guard! Check out my article called SPF is Your BFF.

Pore Minimizing Products

One reason I love professional products so much is because I know the companies that make salon-quality stuff really know how to target a problem area. After all, they need to make the best product so that we’ll keep buying it right?

Well, one product that has never let me down is Artistry Advanced Skin Refinisher. This product:

  • Mattifies and smoothes the skin's surface
  • Helps suppress extra oil production
  • Visibly tightens your pores
  • Contains lentil seed extract, which is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of pores by 62% within six weeks
  • Helps makeup go on super-smooth, for an even complexion
